Snacking Smart
Sustainability is at the core of Office Libations. With our humble roots in the draft beverage industry, we’ve designed our company from the ground up to be the most economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable option for offices to provide their employees with quality coffee, snacks, and beverages. We’ve outlined the key steps we’ve made that have helped us (and in turn, you) to decrease our carbon footprint while never sacrificing quality.
The Keg Program
With billions of plastic bottles making their way into our landfills and oceans every year, the best (and funnest) way to move your office towards a more sustainable future is to switch to alternative packaging, our favorite being kegs. Each Office Libations keg is infinitely reusable, replacing about 100 bottles, cans, or pods with each refill. In 2019 alone, Office Libations kept over 200,000 containers of JUST cold brew out of circulation – not to mention all the packaging from iced tea, seltzers, etc.!
Coffee with a Cause
The traditional gas-powered coffee roasting process has a massively harmful impact on the environment, emitting particulates, smoke, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) – similar to those found in aerosol sprays – into the air with every roast cycle. We decided to roast differently. By partnering with the first-of-its-kind electric recirculating coffee roaster, we’re able to roast our coffee in a way that actually eliminates particulates and VOCs in real time with no additional ventilation systems or afterburners. In fact, the air that exits our roaster is cleaner than the air going into it!
Keeping It Local
As a local, family-run company, we’ve always committed to supporting our fellow local businesses. Additionally, one of the most important ways we can reduce our environmental impact is to buy locally. Nearly all of our beer and roasted coffee partners, and many of our snack and beverage partners, are within 20 miles of our Oakland warehouse, significantly cutting down on shipping and transportation related emissions. It also means that your produce, snacks, and coffee will be fresher and more nutritious – a win-win!
The Little Things
Sometimes, little changes in habits can lead to big impacts. We’ve implemented small steps like motion sensors on our warehouse lights, refrigeration system monitoring, cardboard and pallet recycling, and printing double-sided to cut down on waste of products and energy. Our fleet of vehicles are equipped with fuel-efficient tires and activity monitoring systems that reduce idle time. And our delivery team works their magic every day to ensure that each route is optimized!
